Construction of the Punakha
Training Centre for Technical-Medical Staff,
in adapted Bhutanese architecture,
based on the agreement of May 1997. The design is from Fritz Baumgartner,
a Swiss architect, living in Bhutan. The construction commenced in
May 1998. It comprises two buildings erected near the hospital, one
with 3 lecture rooms and one office, the other with 6 rooms with 24
beds for trainees and 2 tutors.
Again it was His Holiness, the Je Kempo who, together with the Prime
Minister, simultaneously Minister of Health and Education, Lyonpo
Sangay Ngedup, inaugurated the centre in November 1999.
The trainees add to the hospital
staff as they receive part of their practical training in the hospital.
This centre, offering the only major lecture hall in the Punakha area,
is very well used also by the Punakha Dzongkhag ( District ) administration
and other Government units for seminars etc..
